SARAP PINOY NL

Ask any Filipino overseas what they miss the most, and the most likely answer would be 'food.' The flavour and aroma of the Pinoy kitchen pulls us stronger the farther we are away from home. This is exactly what happened with Sarap Pinoy NL co-owner Gladez Kok when she first arrived in the Netherlands. Her cravings for Filipino food products, particularly meat prodcts, drove her to search for the kind of tocino, tapa, and longganisa that reminded her of the flavours of home. But she couldn't find the right taste she was accustomed to. Instead of leaving her cravings unsatisfied, she decided to make the meat products on her own. Her husband, Jack Kok, realised he could also develop the recipes to match the exact taste that Fiilipinos would love. True to their entrepreneurial spirit, they developed their process of meat production, which caused demand to grow quicker than they expected. At present they've also extended to bringing not only meat products to our doorsteps, but also Filipino fruits, vegetables, and seafood (they have bangus!). Add to this the wide assortment of other beloved Pinoy food products such as snacks, condiments, preserves, noodles, sweets, preserves, and more. Sarap Pinoy NL also supplies to different regions and countries in Europe, such as Belgium, Germany, Finland, Sweden, France, Italy, and the UK.

Their desire to delight their customers is integral in Sarap Pinoy NL's business. "Since there is a wide scale of demand for Filipino products, we wanted to give our customers the best quality for the lowest rate we could manage, and also provide products they enjoy but are not easily available here," Gadez shares.

They also recognise the importance of continuosly learning the needs and wants of your target market. "We encountered lots of problems in developing the recipes, and also had our share of crab mentality, but we never stopped trying and improving. We realized you can never please everyone but as long as you pay attention to the wants and needs of your client, you can always develop. We make surveys, we roam, we ask questions, we do food tastings and events. These are some of our ways to promote our products, but also ways to gain insights about our customers."

What started as cravings didn't end unfulfilled. Like the entrepreneurs they are, Gladez and Jack took matters into their own hands, and transformed a need and an absence into something that provides solutions: a growing business that helps comfort not just our bellies but our longing for home. Real comfort food: malinamnam sa panlasa, masarap sa pakiramdam.

"Why join LSE when we already have a business? Because we believe that development and learning shouldn't stop. We can always learn more things from other people's experiences and knowledge, and further understand our culture. It's also important  for us not only to listen to our clients' insights about Filipino products, but also the ideas of the end consumers as well."

Sustainable businesses, regardless of size, are the backbone of any economy. The better the economy, the higher the quality of people's lives. However, economic crisis is inevitable, so is getting laid off from a job one may or may not like. Unemployment is a common problem anywhere in the world, so is the lack of fulfillment at work for those who are employed. The point is people need FULFILLING jobs- that kind of job that makes you feel alive and not the kind that burns out the life in you.

Hence, e3dis is in pursuit of turning one-man businesses into sustainable companies by offering market research services and educational training platforms for both aspiring and practicing enterpreneurs in the expat/ migrant community in the Netherlands. With cooperation, trust and support, together we can all create fulfilling jobs, become good leaders in the community and help build a better quality of life for others and for ourselves.
